2017-18 NDignite Connection Application FAQs
What is NDignite Connection?
NDignite Connection is an online enrichment program for high-achieving students in grades 7 – 8 that strives to help students better understand their gifts, talents and interests, while offering valuable insight into life at a highly-selective university. The program is supported by the University of Notre Dame’s Office of Outreach and Engagement Recruitment (OER). Programming runs from September – December and February – May, with optional programming opportunities in the summer.
**Please note that NDignite Connection no longer includes a ninth grade curriculum. Details regarding a new enrichment opportunity for students in grades 9 – 10 will be released in August 2017.
How much does it cost to participate in NDignite Connection?
The program is sponsored by the University of Notre Dame and is free for all participants.
Who is eligible to apply for NDignite Connection?
Any student in grades 6 or 7 (as of May 1, 2017) who is in the top 5% of his or her class, is self-motivated, and has demonstrated leadership potential is eligible to apply for the program.
How do students apply for NDignite Connection?
Students in grades 6 – 7 submit their application online, and a guidance counselor or administrator will be contacted and asked to submit a recommendation and a copy of the student’s transcript. The NDignite Connection application opens on February 28, 2017 and is available at oer.nd.edu/apply-now/.
How are students selected for NDignite Connection?
Each student is evaluated by OER staff based on their application, guidance counselor/administrator recommendation, and transcript. The majority of NDignite Connection participants are in the top 5% of their class academically, are self-motivated, and exhibit exceptional leadership qualities.
When will students be notified of their acceptance into the program?
NDignite Connection decision notifications will be mailed on July 10, 2017. Students who are accepted into the program will be asked to join a virtual orientation session and complete their NDignite Connection Enrollment Agreement in September 2017.
What will be expected of participants?
All participants are expected to log into the NDignite Connection Online Learning Center six times per semester and watch a 30-minute live broadcast during each session. Following each broadcast, students will be asked to complete a 45-minute activity related to the broadcast topic. Participants are expected to have 75% of their assignments completed by the end of each semester. The total estimated time commitment is 7 to 8 hours per semester.
What can NDignite Connection participants expect?
NDignite Connection participants can expect to explore their gifts, talents, and interests, while learning about a highly selective university. Participants will hear from current Notre Dame students, Admissions staff, alumni, faculty and community leaders during the NDignite Connection LIVE broadcasts. Students will complete activities that revolve around topics such as College Prep, Resilience/EQ, Creativity, Self-awareness, Leadership, Respect for Diversity, Service and Spirituality. NDignite Connection participants can also expect to connect with like-minded peers in our secure, specially-designed Online Learning Center.
